Patrick with COL is a skilled and precise craftsman.  We were needing a structure to provide shade to our west facing patio to make it habitable during the afternoon sun.  Our goal was also not to obstruct the view of the yard and beyond.  Patrick listened to our wishes, communicated with us multiple times and came up with a solution to provide both shade and view.  His engineering and design also provided capabilities of future improvements.  The roof COL installed appears like it was part of our original home.  The cost was comparable or less then others and the jobsite was clean and organized daily.  The workmen were polite and personable. This project was not for amateurs.  Patrick provided a detailed and comprehensive bid that included all the work to be done. Although we did not have detailed drawing to go over, I can tell you that it was planned out down to the precise materials list and the drawing provided to the City for getting the permits must have been excellent from an engineering perspective, because we passed all the building inspections (about 5 or 6) the first time without exceptions. ( I included a picture of the facing of the house and how it looked before the roof line was extended out 14 feet so you could appreciate how tricky it was to structurally tie this new roof into the house and make it look like an original design) There were about 4 changes that we decided on that added about 4% to the total cost of our project.  One of those changes was to opt for LVL (structural lumber) because of its superiority over the usual treated lumber used in decking joists. One of the other changes was added lighting and another was some additional stucco work on the west side of the house. The subcontractors that C.O.L. used for electrical and stucco, have a history with Patrick and they are reliable and do excellent work. He is on the job site every day and supervises every detail. When there were options for how something could be done, I was asked and got the opportunity to weigh in on the decision. I was really pleased how I was able to participate in the decision process. There were some details that I took care of myself, like a new concrete landing and walkway, a new pad by the walk-out basement and relocating sprinkler pipe and wiring that was going to be in the way of the piers.  They always say the devil is in the details and if some things are missed or not thought out in advance, it will be a cost over-run. Patrick is great to work with because he is good about anticipating what has to be done in his initial bid. He is not a contractor who will give you a low-ball estimate to get the job and then try to add in changes later. I based my choice of this contractor on being able to see some of his previous jobs and seeing his work for my next door neighbor, all of which was excellent. I have no problem being a referral site for C.O.L. and would give Patrick the highest recommendation. He did a beautiful job for us!
